William

Hello,

My name is William from Ottawa, Ontario and my life has forever changed dealing with the aftermath of getting LASIK in 2019. I was sold on getting rid of my glasses and seeing 20/20 but what I got instead was a list of rare complications and one of them being neuropathic corneal pain.

My journey in trying to find help was hopeless after seeing a number of different doctors where they are not properly equipped or trained to diagnose the issue, as they can't see anything wrong on the slit lamp but claim I simply have dry eyes or that the symptoms that I am experiencing are not real and that it is all in my head. This has led to my eventual disability of not being able to work for a number of months, losing lots of weight and becoming mentally ill. I am not sure about you but not being able to look at a screen without pain or getting constant headaches or migraines and the feeling that someone is squeezing your eyeballs and stabbing them is real pain.

There are many things that I have done to date to try and help this condition, and thanks to the community groups that I am part I now have some stability. But after spending thousands of dollars on a number of treatments not covered by our provincial health care system, I find that this will be an ongoing expense and battle for the rest of my life unless our government steps in and recognizes that this is an issue and helps us.

William.
